Important facts before using Stanford Sites Taxonomy Structure: 

The Taxonomy Structure provides a vocabulary set for each of the default Content Types provided by the platform. Site-authors can create terms within each of the provided vocabulary sets

  • Type terms should be specific to the Content Type. Example:

    • News Type: Announcement, Blog, Press Release

    • Event Type: Exhibition, Lecture, Workshop

    • Person Type: Graduate Fellows, Faculty, Staff

    • Publication Type: Book, Journal, Presentation

    • Type terms are visible and interactive to end-users through the default list page (except on Basic Page Type)

  • Basic Page Type use this vocabulary set to create terms and categories to be used for any Basic Page. For example:
    • Use Basic Page to create Research pages or Resource Pages 
    • Basic Page Type terms are part of the Page Metadata and support content-authors in curating a list of content. They are NOT visible to end-users.
  • Shared tags should be terms that can be applied to any piece of content on your site. i.e. a News, Event, and Publication could be tagged with "water". Example: 
    • Award
    • Environment
    • Water
    • Featured
    • Shared tags only support content-authors in curating and featuring related content. They are NOT visible to end-users.

A taxonomy structure, its functionality, and usage will be as good as your content structure! 

Type terms should be specific to the Content Type.

Type terms are visible and interactive to end-users through the default list page and the node page. Except on Basic Page Type.

Shared tags should be terms that can be applied to any piece of content on your site.

Example: 

- Award

- Environment

- Water

- Featured
